Official: Team Edo finishes on the podium as curtain falls on the 21st National Sports Festival

…Emerges second overall on medals won.

As the 21st National Sports Festival “Delta 2022” officially comes to an end today, Team Edo has emerged as the third overall best state in the competition behind Team Bayelsa and Team Delta.

According to the final table assigned by the Chairman games services, Team Edo accrued a total of 339 medals which include 78 gold, 94 silver, and 167 bronze medals to finish third behind the second-placed state, Team Bayelsa who gathered 132 gold, 115 silver, and 90 bronze to total 337 medals and the first placed state, Team Delta who amassed a total of 648 medals comprising of 320 gold, 200 silver, and 128 bronze medals.

Team Edo did excellently well in Gymnastics, Kickboxing, Para Powerlifting, Para Athletics, Athletics, Deaf Athletics, Kungfu, and Boxing where they accrued 46 gold medals in total.

The team also did well in Kickboxing, Powerlifting, Gymnastics, and Canoeing with 54 silver medals.

The team also gathered 25 bronze medals in Aquatic, 15 in Canoeing, and 10 in kickboxing.

In total medals, Team Edo came second behind Team Delta with a total of 339 medals. Amongst the medal winners, Team Edo set a world record in Para Powerlifting when Kafilat Almaruf lifted 145kg in the 73kg Women’s category, a record she had earlier set in the Cairo African Championship – the pathway to the Olympics 2024, in October 2022.

The 21st National Sports Festival ends today December 10, 2022.
