The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) today kicked off the second edition of the Inter-Departmental/Inter-Profesional Games – which is one of the key activities in celebrating the Hospital’s Golden Jubilee anniversary – and it was a good way to start with two goals from either side to set the tone for more thrilling encounters to experience.
The opening match of the tournament at the UBTH main field saw Team Cooperative play out a 1-1 draw against Nurses/Pharmacy in an exhilarating encounter on Monday evening, leaving the fans something to talk about at the end of the end-to-end affair.
The Chief Medical Doctor of the Hospital, Professor Darlington Obaseki performed the ceremonial kick-off before the teams took to the pitch to commence their quest of dethroning Team Doctors as the winners.
Both teams settled into the game with enough confidence and gave each other runs for their money until the deadlock was broken, just a quarter of an hour of the game.
The first goal of the game came from Eromonsele Philip in the 15th minute after a fine link-up play to give Team Cooperative an early lead, but the game was levelled just a minute after the hour mark when Aliu Churchill restored parity with a solo goal to give his side hope of snatching a victory in the game after dominating from the blast of the second half whistle.
Hostility resumes tomorrow, Tuesday, April 4 as the defending champions, Team Doctors will squares up against IHT/SHIM/MSS at UBTH main field.
