Anticipation, Passion and Expectations is all at Old Trafford on ‘Monday Night’ in what is to be the first instalment of the North West Derby in the 2022/23 English Premier League season, arguably England’s most revered and biggest rivalry not only in name only but stature and glory as both sides share 39 English League titles between each other with Manchester United on 20 and Liverpool on 19, the first ever football encounter between this two juggernauts was played on the 28th of April, 1894.
Manchester United come into this game off the back of a 4-0 humiliation and a 1-2 loss they suffered in the hands of Brentford at the GTech Community Stadium and Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford respectively; meanwhile, Liverpool on their part was held to a 2-2 scoreline against newly promoted Fulham at Craven Cottage. Additionally, they followed in that geometric progression although with a reduced score line playing 1-1 at Anfield to Crystal Palace; what is most important is the glaring fact that both sides have not recorded a victory in the opening matches so far in the league’s new season.
The Red Devils, Manchester United currently sit 20th at the extreme of the English Premier League table while The Reds, Liverpool sit also in the bottom half of the league table currently occupying the 12th spot on the log.
Both sides would be massively wanting to prove a point to give fans something to cheer and believe looking at how they have both underperformed so far, Erik Ten Hag would be racking his brain hoping that his boys do not fail to live up to billing although it looks likes a herculean task bearing in mind how Jurgen Klopp’s army humbled Manchester United last season in the league putting a cumulative 9 goals past the Red Devils, Manchester United would although be basking in the 4-0 hammering they dished out to Jurgen Klopps, Liverpool in the preseason.
Team News For Manchester United:
Anthony Martial could be on his way back to the starting lineup as he would be hoping that he replicates his fine preseason form in his first possible chance of action in the new league season.
Team News For Liverpool:
Liverpool would be without their new signing and prospect Darwin Nunez who got a red card after headbutting Joachim Andersen of Crystal Palace. There is also notable mention of injuries to Thiago, Joel Matip and a boost as Roberto Firmino looks to be back in contention for the trip to Manchester after missing the clash with Crystal Palace due to a muscular issue, Many indications show that we may see a much changed Liverpool set up at Old Trafford.
