The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau has emphasised that any potential change in the name of the country’s top-flight league, from the Nigeria Professional Football League to the Nigeria Premier Football League, must be presented to the Nigeria Football Federation Congress for approval.
Recently, there have been discussions about renaming the league to the Nigeria Premier Football League. Notably, during the just-concluded season, the now-defunct Interim Management Committee (IMC) had already changed its name to Nigeria Premier Football League.
However, the final decision lies with the Nigeria Football Federation Congress, and all required procedures must be duly observed to bring about the proposed name change.
The potential name alteration reflects the league’s aspirations to elevate its status and align with the standards of other football competitions worldwide.
