Edo Queens Football Club of Benin City secured victory in the finals of the 6th Sheroes Pre-season Cup against Naija Ratels FC, demonstrating their supremacy with a victorious 1-0 win, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
The match-winning goal was netted by Emem Essien in the 37th minute, with an assist from Suliat Abideen. Edo Queens’ consistent excellence throughout the competition resulted in five consecutive victories.
In their matches, the Moses Adukwu tutored side triumphed over Ekiti Queens FC (4-1), Dannaz Ladies FC (5-0), Honey Badgers (4-0), Sunshine Queens FC (2-0), and Naija Ratels FC (1-0), claiming the tournament trophy.
The tournament also served as an evaluation for the players’ readiness for the upcoming NWFL premiership season, which begins on November 15, 2023. Edo Queens will start their season by hosting FC Robo of Lagos at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin City.
Individual honours included Etim Inyene winning the Golden Glove as the best goalkeeper, Suliat Abideen being named the MVP (Most Valuable Player), and Emem Essien clinching the title of highest goal scorer with five goals.
The Main Organizing Committee MOC of the pre-season tournament generously provided balls and jerseys to the six participating teams. Also, Barrister Paul Edeh and the Super Falcons Captain awarded a cash prize of three hundred thousand Naira to the three standout players of Edo Queens: Emem Essien, Suliat Abideen, and Etim Inyene.
