Philip and Maryann Shaibu, Host Staff To Independence Party



Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu and his wife, Maryann on Sunday October 15th hosted staff of the Office of the Deputy Governor, family members and friends to the annual Independence Party and Award.

It was a convivial atmosphere of fun and entertainment to celebrate Nigeria’s 63rd independence anniversary in grand style, as sumptuous meals, assorted drinks, music and a variety of competitions took centre stage at the event which also attracted important personalities from all walks of life. These included the Chief of Staff, Office of the Deputy Governor, Hon Kingsley Ehigiamusor, Hon Donald Okogbe, member representing Akoko-Edo Constituency 2 at Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Matthew Iduoiyekemwen, former Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Frank Okiye and publisher, Midwest Herade and former Commissioner in the state, Comrade Orobosa Omo-Ojo.



The event which was held at the GRA private residence of the number two citizen in Benin City, witnessed the Deputy Governor and his amiable wife dancing to lyrics of various genres of music amidst pomp.

The celebration marks the 7th edition in the series and has over the years, provided a unique occasion for socialization and interaction between the second family, their official and personal staff.

One of the major activities that added colour to the occasion was a drama
sketch presented by the Media Team of His Excellency, depicting the humanitarian gesture of the Deputy Governor in response to some accident victims during his visit to the Ovia River on the Benin-Lagos Express Road; food eating contest, quiz competition, children and adult dance, among others.



Winners in the various competitions were given cash prizes for their efforts.

In her remarks, Her Excellency, Mrs Maryann Philip-Shaibu commended the staff, their families and friends for always identifying with the Shaibu household, while praying that God will continue to keep them in good health, sound mind and prosperity for years to come.

A major highlight of the event was the presentation of a cash award to a Driver, Mr. Abdul Muritala, a staff of the Office of the Deputy Governor who retired meritoriously from service recently.


It would be recalled that this year’s celebration was earlier postponed at the instance of the Deputy Governor in sympathy with the bereaved families who lost their loved ones at the unfortunate petrol tanker inferno in the Koko area on the Benin-Sapele-Warri Road.
