With just thirteen days to the commencement of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership, the league body has announced a postponement of the commencement for another date.
The Chief Operating Officer of the NWFL, Modupe Shabi announced that the NWFL premiership 2022/2023 season which was slated to kick off on September 14th, 2022, across various centres in Nigeria has been postponed to October 12th, 2022 due to major factors cannot be shrugged off by the board to ensure a smooth running season.
She further stated the major reasons as to why the league has been postponed which include the involvement of the defending champions of the NWFL in the WAFU B qualifiers of the CAF women’s champions league ongoing in Cote D’Ivoire and the participation of ten out of fourteen teams of the NWFL in the Betsy Obaseki women football tournament in Benin city, scheduled to start from September 7th to 17th, 2022.
She also added that the postponement will help the league board complete club licensing documents ahead of the registration for the 2022/2023 season and noted that the league format remains the same.
