The women Cricket national team of Nigeria, popularly known as the Female Yellow Greens have touched down Uganda, host country for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
The Female Yellow Greens landed at the Entebbe international airport in Uganda early hours of Friday morning as they prepare to set a new record by qualifying for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup for the first time.
Meanwhile, Christabel Chukwuoeye, a student of the Benin Technical College, Benin City, who recently got the national team invitation took to social media to express her joy as she made the final 14 player list who will be representing Nigeria.
Christabel posted a video on her Facebook timeline of her new Female Yellow Greens jersey, showing off her new squad number (number 30).
In an exclusive interview with the 14 year old, She expressed her gratitude to God, her family and to the Nigeria Cricket Federation for the opportunity to represent her country.
She also went on to thank all the coaches who in one way or the other groomed her, almost in tears wishing her coach who discovered her from Junior secondary School was alive to witness this new feat of hers.
“I am really grateful to all the coaches that have trained and mentored me from the very first moment I was introduced to this game. I am particularly grateful to Coach Peter Esewi Guobadia of blessed memory, who discovered me, right from J.S.S. one in my School, Benin Technical College. May his Soul continue to rest in peace. I promise to do all my best so that he will be proud of me in heaven, where I believe he is, right now.”
Christabel Chukwuonye is the youngest Player (14 Years and 362 days old as at today) in Nigeria Senior Women’s Cricket Team.
She is the Current Captain of the Edo State Under 15 Girls and Benin Technical College Cricket teams. She was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the last National Youth Games (Under 15) which was played in Asaba, Delta State.
She is a wonderful product of Late Mr Peter Esewi Guobadia the undefeated Coach in Edo State till his death.
Meanwhile, the Female Yellow Greens will take to the Cricket Oval on Sunday morning in their first qualifiers match against Namibia, one of their group B opponents. The match will be played at the Entebbe Cricket Oval by 7:30 am Nigerian Time.
