Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Professor Darlington Obaseki has revealed that ongoing construction at the UBTH mini stadium will be ready by January 1, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

Prof. Obaseki made this known on Saturday, December 9, at the opening matchday of the Chief Medical Director Inter-Professional Tournament currently going on. The tournament has 16 professional bodies competing for honour and glory.

“This year’s edition is a milestone, the 7th edition. As you can see behind me, we are developing our stadium, we are developing a stand which will be available before the final (January 1st), 350 seater it will be.

“The seats are yet to arrive, the dressing rooms are not fully ready and we are going to have a perimeter fence around it which will be ready before the final,” the CMD revealed.

Prof. Obaseki went on to speak of the hospital’s ambitious plan to promote sports development in Edo State.

“When we are done with this competition we are going to re-grass this pitch and landscape it with water sprinklers. We are trying to achieve the best pitch in Edo State which will rival even the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.” Prof. Obaseki added.

The 55-year-old who will be 56 on January 1, 2024, went on to speak on the idea behind the CMD Cup as he explained why the tournament is for professionals.

“The idea behind this competition is to engender comradeship between different professions like lawyers, bankers, doctors, laboratory scientists and veterans to come together at the end of the end of the year to play and compete.

“It drives the idea for you to be physically fit. That is one of our goals at the hospital. We urge people to be physically fit. We have started this year’s edition on a good note” He said
