Former Tanzanian coach and ex-Nigerian international, Emmanuel Amuneke has expressed excitement over Tanzania participating in the 33rd edition of the African Cup Of Nations, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
Amuneke was relieved of his position as the head coach of Tanzania after the team’s poor performance in the 2019 AFCON in Egypt, finishing bottom of Group C. He went on to express his gratitude nonetheless, as his time in Tanzania helped the nation qualify for AFCON for the first time in 39 years.
After 39 years of Tanzania not being in the AFCON, Amuneke two years contract in Tanzania paid off as the objective of the contract, qualifying Tanzania for the AFCON was achieved.
“The main objective was achieved, which was qualifying Tanzania in the AFCON. For the team, it’s an experience because no team today that becomes great that didn’t go through the processes of learning and challenging, and I’m happy they are back again.”, he explained.
However, even with the past, Amuneke explained that he still has a great relationship with Tanzania.
“We still have a relationship, we talk, there is nothing wrong between me and Tanzania, they still write me. Last month I still met their new minister of sport and he was happy to see me.”
