Super Eagles midfielder, Joseph Ayodele Aribo was missing in action as fellow country man, Paul Onuachu helped relegation-battling Southampton secure a goalless draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford in matchday 28 of the 22/23 English Premier League, Sunday evening.
The out-of-favour Aribo has struggled to stamp his place in the team this season and was again not in the matchday squad for the fifth time this season having last played for 12 minutes in his team’s 2-1 home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in an early February, this year.
Southampton rode on the luck of their 1-0 win over Leicester City last week with a positive approach against the side who suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Liverpool last week and could have earned the lead early in the first half, but David De Gea did well to force a brilliant save from Theo Walcott’s close-range header.
The Saints had other chances to take the lead against a 10-man United, but David De Gea was on top of his game to force as many stops as pushed at him.
Meanwhile, Aribo’s national teammate, Paul Onuachu could only see twelve minutes of action after he was thrown into the fray of things in the 85th minute by Rubén Sellés, but the former Genk forward failed to make an impact in the game for the twelve minutes spent on the field.
Southampton despite the result – three unbeaten from the last four under Rubén Sellés’ reign remains 20th in the table with 22 points in 26 games.
