Chairman of the top and leading Sports news brand in Nigeria, Ayoola Matthew Adeleke, has on Thursday been voted into the newly inaugurated Edo State Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Edo State Chapter.

The seasoned and award-winning journalist who is known for his writing prowess on his website, Platinum News and other online news platforms and his eloquence and vocal ability on Radio via Silverbird’s Rhythm 93.7FM Benin, emerged winner of the post of assistant secretary-general in the election.

The election, which took place at the media centre of the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin City, saw four aspirants contest for four of the available seats in the executive of the association.

The candidates, however, were returned unopposed as their positions weren’t contested by any aspirants. The newly inaugurated executive is made up of: Mr Kehinde Osagiede – Chairman; Mr Moses Idahosa – Secretary; Mr Ayoola Adeleke – Assistant Secretary-General; Nosakhare Igunma – Treasurer.

The State chapter of SWAN was without a duly elected executive for over five years, following a leadership crisis that rocked the chapter.

The South/South Zonal President of SWAN, Mr Ikemefuna Asika, was on the ground from the National Office to supervise the election. He also administered the oath of office to the new Exco members, using the opportunity to charge members in the state to work as a team for the progress of SWAN.

In a statement after the election, Mr Adeleke appreciated members of the state chapter of SWAN, promising to deliver on his electoral promises, which included contributing his quota towards the growth of the association.

“It is an incredible honour to be voted to serve this great chapter of SWAN in this capacity. I’m committed to serving our Sports Writers Association with integrity, passion, and dedication. I urge all members to support us(the new excos) as we work together to elevate sports journalism, support our members, and foster a vibrant association.”
