The Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu’s annual ‘Breakfast meeting with practicing journalists’ across Edo State has been fixed for Tuesday, December 20, 2022.

The meeting according to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Comrade Ebomhiana Musa, has become an annual ‘ritual’ where the Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu interacts with journalists in a convivial atmosphere over breakfast.
The meeting is dated back to Comrade Shaibu’s days as a member of the state House of Assembly where he was popularly called MAJOR by his admirers.
December 20th which has become part of the annual calendar of events of the state’s second family is seen by some journalists in the Edo State Council of the NUJ as a prelude to Christmas proper; they eagerly look forward to it.
According to Musa, a novel idea was introduced into the breakfast meeting when the host, the Deputy Governor in his remarks last year, said effective from the 2022 edition, outstanding journalists will be appreciated in the area of investigative journalism. The best Investigative Journalists every year will go home with total prize money of 500, 000 naira, to be shared amongst the best three entries. The State Council was mandated to set up a committee to receive entries from journalists in the state, cutting across print and electronic,” Musa said.
The best entry, first runner-up, and second runner-up are expected to go home with cash prizes of 250, 000; 150, 000 and 100, 000 respectively.
According to the statement, the venue remains the private residence of the state Deputy Governor on Aideyen Street off Golf Course Road, Benin with the time scheduled as 8 am.
