CAF Appoints 32-year-old Referee For Bendel Insurance Versus ASO Chlef Match

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has assigned Togo referee, Aklesso Gnama as the man in the Center for the Confederation Cup preliminary round match involving former champions, Bendel Insurance football club of Nigeria and Association Sportive Olympique de Chlef (ASO Chlef) of Algeria.

The 32-year-old will be assisted by compatriots Komlan Domenyo Adiwotso (Assistant I), Abdo Kabilafia (Assistant II) and Kouassi Attiogbe (Fourth referee).

Sekou Konneh of Liberia will serve as the match Commissioner while Dr. ThankGod Coleman of Nigeria will be on duty as the Medical Officer for the match.

The young and vibrant umpire has previously seen six continental matches, three involving Nigerian teams in the continent, first was Plateau United losing 1-0 at home to Simba SC of Tanzania in 2020 in the CAF Champions League.

The Togolese international also saw the match between Bayelsa United against Ashante Golden Boys of Guinea which the Restoration boys won 4-1 in the 2021 CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round before presiding over the game involving Remo Stars Sports Club 1-0 home defeat to FAR Rabat in the first leg of the 2022/2023 CAF Confederation preliminary round.

The Université de Lomé graduate became FIFA badged in 2019 and has since seen top games on the continent and is regarded as one of the finest in his country.

The first leg of the First preliminary round is scheduled to take place on August 19, 2023, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City of Edo State.
