Swedish Side Mjällby AIF has officially announced the signing of Nigerian Forward Yusuf Abdulazeez from Nigeria Professional Football League Side Gombe United.
The Hallevik-based club confirmed the signing via social media and announced that the Nigerian Youngster has put pen to paper on a three-year deal until 2025.
The club further added that the transfer was already completed on August 11, which was the deadline day of the Swedish transfer window but due to the work and residence permit process it has taken until now for Abdulazeez to join his new club.
The 20-year-old Winger who can play on the right and left side of the field was one of the revelations of the Just concluded 2021/2022 NPFL season as he recorded 16 goals to finish the third Highest top scorer in the Nigerian top-tier league and helped Gombe United to an 8th place finish in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
“Yusuf is a player we’ve had our eye on for a long time. He is an interesting striker with strengths in his speed, strength and finishing. Yusuf has impressive numbers and statistics from Nigeria despite his young age. It is a player we hope can make a difference both in the short and long term” said sporting director Hasse Larsson on the club’s website.
Yusuf Abdulazeez who joined Gombe United in 2019 was among the 35 players invited to camp by the Nigeria CHAN Eagles Head Coach Salisu Yusuf for the 2023 Africa Nations Championship double-legged qualifier against Ghana and joins Compatriot Silas Nwankwo who joined the club earlier this year after finishing top scorer of the 2020/2021 NPFL season with Nassarawa United.
He would now look forward to making his debut in Mjällby AIF’s next Allsvenskan encounter against GIF Sundsvallon Sunday.
Mjällby AIF has had a decent season in the Sweden Top Flight and is sitting in 8th place In the 16-team log with eight games to play and the acquisition of Yusuf Abdulazeez would hopefully help the Blekinge Club for the final sprint of the season.
