…Earmarks ₦223BN for recurrent expenditure, ₦381BN for capital projects
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has unveiled a proposed budget of N605 billion for 2025, representing a 25% increase from the previous year.
This comprehensive budget, tagged “Budget of Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo,” allocates N223 billion (37%) towards recurrent expenditures and N381 billion (63%) for capital projects. Key areas of focus include road infrastructure development, education, healthcare, security, and agriculture.
The Governor, who presented the Appropriation Bill at the hallow chamber of the Edo State House of Assembly (EDA) on Tuesday, saper cents a 25 per cent increase from the 2024 Budget.
The Governor said that 37% of this sum, amounting to N223 billion, will be dedicated to recurrent expenditure, while the remaining N381 billion, which represents 63%, will go into capital projects.
Senator Okpebholo echoed that the proposed Bill is a product of wide consultations and that it will ensure accountability and transparency in governance for responsive service delivery to the people of Edo state.
Governor Okpebholo also noted that road Infrastructure is a key plan of his administration, to make a huge difference in the sector.
He said under education, his administration has kept the obligation to revisit the education sector and improve the deplorable condition of schools from primary and secondary to tertiary.
In the area of Security and Community Development, Senator Okpebholo said his administration is also powered by the drive to bring about peace and harmony in all parts of the State.
Governor Okpebholo thanked the Speaker and honourable members of the state House of Assembly and added that he has highlighted the major policy objectives of the 2025 budget, aimed at uplifting the socio-economic conditions of our people.
The speaker of EDHA, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku thanked the Governor for the presentation and assured him that the house will work with relevant stakeholders to ensure speedy passage of the Bill.
