Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has penned a congratulatory message to Super Falcons defender, Usani Miracle, following her team’s triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
In an emotional tweet posted via his official X (formerly Twitter) page on July 30, 2025, the governor hailed Usani’s role in Nigeria’s victorious campaign, describing her as “a daughter of destiny” of Cross River State.
“You’ve stamped Cross River’s name on the golden map of African football,” the governor wrote.
“Congratulations to our daughter of destiny, Miracle Usani Ofem. Your triumph at the #WAFCON has brought uncontainable joy to Cross River and Nigeria.”
Usani, a native of Ugep, was praised for her journey from grassroots football to continental glory. Governor Otu emphasised the significance of her achievement, urging citizens to celebrate her as an inspiration.
“From Biko Biko, Ugep to continental glory, your courage, elegance, and excellence have cast a radiant spotlight on our state. You are a beacon of pride and a mirror of possibility for the next generation,” he said.
“We must celebrate you in our schools, homes, and history for showing the world that greatness lives in Cross River soil.”
Governor Otu concluded his message with gratitude, stating, “Thank you, Miracle, you are not just a champion, you are our heroine.”
Usani played a match — goalless last group match against Algeria—in the tournament where the Super Falcons went on to clinch the WAFCON title, coming back from going down to two first-half goals against Morocco, reaffirming their dominance in African women’s football.
