DEMOCRACY DAY: Shaibu Harps on Tenets of Good Governance, Prosperity

…urges Nigerian youths to participate actively in politics

As the nation celebrates this year’s Democracy Day, Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu has congratulated Nigerians all over the world for their resilience and determination in sustaining participatory democracy, as the bedrock of good governance and prosperity for the people.

This is even as he applauded the youths for their consciousness and awareness in keeping faith with the tenets of democracy while urging them to be actively involved in partisan politics.

In his message to Nigerians, titled: Democracy: “Bedrock of Good Governance and Prosperity, the Deputy Governor noted:

“It is my pleasure to congratulate Nigerians, at home and in the diaspora, as our dear nation celebrates her hard-won Democracy Day”.

“Permit me to particularly extend my felicitations to Nigerian youths, in a very special way, for their increasing awareness and interest in politics and by extension, democracy and progressive governance”.

“As a young person myself, I am excited and inspired by the passion, zeal and commitment exhibited by the youths, who constitute a significant majority in our nation’s population – since the enthronement of the present democratic dispensation 24 years ago”.

According to Shaibu, democracy is time-tested, trusted and rooted in popular participation by the people, based on the rule of law.

“All over the world, democracy has been tested and trusted to be the best form of government for mutual inclusion and prosperity of the people”.

“For us as a diverse people, bound together in love and unity, democracy has become a veritable tool for our corporate existence as an independent nation, since 1999 with the uninterrupted constitutional government”.

The Deputy Governor observed that though the task of entrenching and sustaining our democracy has been challenging, there’s no better substitute for constitutional and participatory government.

“As we celebrate our Democracy Day, l want to enjoin all Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, religion or political divide, that democracy has come to stay and all hands must be on deck to protect it”.

“Great Nigerian youths, as leaders of tomorrow, our future starts now. Let’s continue to push, get actively involved in politics and keep alive, the hope of a better and prosperous Nigeria”.

“I wish all Nigerians a happy Democracy Day celebration”.
