…extols late Anenih’s uncommon leadership style
In the spirit of yuletide coupled with his quest for the number one seat in the state, Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu, Wednesday visited the Peoples Democratic Party, and PDP stakeholders in Esan land.
The interaction was held at the PDP Secretariat in Uromi, the administrative headquarters of Esan North East Local Government.
In his address, Shaibu described the late national leader of PDP, Chief Tony Anenih as a great leader whose legacy is incomparable, even as he appreciated Edo Central PDP leaders for their steadfast, support and commitment to the party.
“We have been together for a long even before I became the Deputy Governor. We have had personal relationships outside politics. We relate very well and you all know my person very well”.
“For me, politics is about friendship and relationship with the people, where two can work together. We won’t allow ethnic and religious sentiments to divide us in our relationship this 21st century”.
The Deputy Governor highlighted the required qualities of a candidate Edo PDP needs – a flagbearer that will lead from the front to galvanize victory for the party in the upcoming 2024 Governorship Election.
According to him: “the flagship of the present administration was my assigned responsibilities which I performed creditably and this has put the State on the world map”.
“I have never failed in my assigned responsibilities as a lawmaker at the State House of Assembly, where I executed 49 constituency projects in 8 years and 19 constituency projects under 18 months as a member of the House of Representatives”.
“As Deputy Governor in the last 7 years, my records are there. They speak of my ability and capacity to pilot affairs of our state. All my projects were done based on the people’s demands and not based on ethnicity or any sentiment”, Shaibu added.
Earlier in his remarks, Archbishop Anthony Okosun, who spoke on behalf of the PDP stakeholders, applauded the Deputy Governor’s political credentials.
“You are truly a party man who wants PDP to succeed. Even though those who came with you and the Governor to join the party have left you behind, you remain resolute in uniting the party”.
“PDP is in disarray. We appeal to you to use your good offices to unite the party. Even if one faction of PDP goes to heaven to bring down Angel Gabriel, without the cooperation of the other, PDP will still fail”.
“There are many aspirants on the field. Each of you should play the game without enmity”, Bishop Okosun added.
