Edo Government ready to collaborate with Gambia on E- procurement, says Shaibu

…As the Gambia understudies Edo Procurement System

The Edo State Government has pledged its support and collaboration with the Gambian Government for easy digitalization of the country’s e-procurement system.

The State Deputy Governor, Rt.Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, pledged when he played host to the delegation of the Gambia Fiscal Management Development Project at the Government House, Benin City.

The team which is on a study visit to the Edo State Procurement Agency was led by the Project Manager, Mrs. Bday Anta Taal.

The Deputy Governor noted that the civil service was the springboard and engine room for dealing with many problems associated with governance.

He affirmed that through an effective and digitalized workforce, the integrity and governance of the State have been greatly improved while assuring the delegation of the State Government’s commitment to collaborate and exchange economic ideas with the Gambian Government in improving its economic growth and development.

According to Shaibu, “the initiative of digitalizing our education system, civil service and particularly the public procurement has really enhanced our system of governance, transparency, cost efficiency and increased productivity among others”.

The Project Coordinator, Nigeria Governors’ Forum State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability Technical Assistance, Abuja, Mr. Solomon Affun, who accompanied the delegation from Lagos, said the choice of Edo State was informed by the impeccable records available at the public procurement system in Africa.

In her remarks, the Project Manager, of Gambia Public Procurement Authority, Mrs. Nday Anta Taal, commended Edo State Government and its Public Procurement Agency for the warm reception accorded them.

She expressed delight at the public procurement system, which according to available records in public procurement systems in Africa, rank Edo and Lagos States high and recommended the two States as digitally rich in data that could assist the Gambian Government in policy planning and management.

Mrs. Taal promised that the Gambian Government would continue with economic relations with Nigeria, particularly Edo and the Lagos States.
