It is just the maiden edition, but the competitiveness and management have made it look like it’s been up to 10 years — a testament to the top-notch organization of a football tournament initiated by the Edo State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq, platinumnewsng.com is reporting
The tournament which kicked off in October was initially scheduled to climax on the 10th day of December, but some technicalities as a result of its high level of competitiveness have necessitated for extension in date.
The tournament initiated to foster love and healthy competition amongst civil and public servants in Edo state has with no doubt lived up to its hype with the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Victor Edokpahi not leaving any stone unturned
After games and elimination of teams, the last four teams emerged and one already booked its place in the final, awaiting the winner between the other two competitors — the Government House team last Wednesday edged EdoSUBEB by 2-1 after Efosa Ojo and Thomas Oriahale goals cancelled out Fred Ohio’s goal for EdoSUBEB.
Present at the game was the head of service, Anthony Okungbowa who was present as a neutral to give the two sides his cheers. He’s expected to be present on Wednesday, December 13, when the Edo State Sports Commission and the Ministry of Physical Planning, Housing, Urban and Regional Development team will slug it out at the Western Boys High School mini stadium, to set up a final date against the Government House Team.
According to the Secretary of the Organizing Committee, Benny Ogbewi Oghosa, the third place and final games earlier scheduled for December 10 will now be held on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the prestigious Samuel Ogbemudia stadium.
The initiative by the Head of Service, no doubt has been a fantastic move that has brought in some level of healthy competition amongst civil servants and at the same time exposed individuals’ hidden talents which has now made them become popular and respected amongst their colleagues.
