… as Shaibu harps on unity, predicts victory at the polls
The Edo State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has pledged its commitment towards restoring peace and unity among aggrieved party members ahead of the upcoming general elections.
The State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki gave the assurance in Benin City during an elaborate meeting with stakeholders across the three senatorial districts of the State.
Obaseki expressed confidence that the grievances among party leaders in Edo State will be amicably resolved before the general elections which will restore hope to Nigerians.
According to the Governor, “our country is at the crossroad and God forbid, if we don’t take the right decisions to install the right persons in power come 25th February, our country will be in trouble and most of us may not be able to escape the trouble”.
“It is a clear danger facing our country today, but thank God for democracy that has given us the instrument and tools to do what we needed to do to correct the coast we found ourselves in the country”.
“Our founding fathers designed the Peoples Democratic Party as a course-correcting party. We must be ready to make sacrifices to attain our desired end”.
“One of the sacrifices will include us putting every effort and energy into reconciliation and bringing all of us back into the fold. Let me assure you that it has started and over the next few days, we will ratify the reconciliation move”, Obaseki added.
In his remarks, Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu said God has revealed a song of victory to him which is further proof that God allowed the All Progressives Congress, APC, to bring an unhealthy candidate who is not strong enough to rescue Nigeria from its current woes.
“The ruling party that is supposed to be a force against all odds by sustaining itself has failed Nigeria”.
“This is because God has a purpose for Nigeria, by allowing the ruling party to bring somebody who is not medically fit to rule us. This is against the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended”.
“It’s obvious that the people determine who represents them. The destiny of Nigeria is in our hands as a people and PDP is in an advantageous position to win the forthcoming general elections”.
“In winning the elections, Edo must be counted among the states that won overwhelmingly. I, therefore, charge our leaders to be united in the mission of rescuing Nigeria. It is not about us the PDP; it is about Nigeria our country”, Shaibu affirmed.
The meeting attracted PDP chieftains and leaders from across the state, including former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe; Senator Yisa Braimah, Senator Victor Oyofoh, member, PDP National Campaign Council, High Chief Ramond Dokpesi and former National Woman Leader, Mrs. Herbertta Ayu.
Others were Chief Tom Uloko, Edo North Senatorial Chairman, Hon. Segun Saiki; Archbishop Okosun, former APC State Chairman, Anselm Ojezua Esq, Chief Aguele, pioneer Edo PDP State Chairman; as well as Mr. Francis Olifun and Chief Osaro ldah, Chairman, Edo PDP Election Management Committee, amongst others.
In their separate speeches, they were unanimous in calling on the leaders and stakeholders of the PDP to close ranks, shun their ego, swallow pride and mend fences with aggrieved members of the party, before the general elections.
The PDP leaders added that only a timely resolution will guarantee the party a united force for the opposition to beat.
