Edo Referees Mourn Passing of Former NPFL Referee

The Edo State Council of the Nigerian (football) Referee Association (NRA) has announced the passing of the Late Mr. Nelson Otamere, a retired Nigeria premier football league referee and an active Nigerian National League (NNL) match assessor.

Late Mr Nelson who until his death was a member of the Egor Referee Society of the Edo State Referee Council died on Wednesday, 20th September, 2023.

It was gathered that the late Mr. Nelson Otamere was part of the Edo State Referee football team which defeated the Benin City Youth League Club Owners Association football team 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon during the end-of-season activities.

He would be remembered for his humility, simplicity, passion, knowledge and experience of the game.

During his active referee days, Late Mr. Nelson received many awards and recognitions. One of those numerous awards includes his award as the referee of the year in 2015 by the Edo State Football Association, humbly Chaired at the time by Hon Frank Ilaboya.
