The fifth edition of Eyoto Sports Academy, in collaboration with the Edo State Government, is set to kick off starting tomorrow, December 5, 2024.
The press briefing, which was held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Media Centre, aims to promote youth development through sports. According to Dr. Felix Idahosa, President of Eyoto Sports Academy, the tournament will focus on Edo South this year, with plans to include Edo North and Edo Central in future competitions. The academy is committed to supporting students aged 11-13, providing them with training and resources to excel in their athletic pursuits.
The tournament will feature various track and field events, including the 100-meter dash, 4×1 relay, and 4×4 relay. The top three winners will receive cash prizes of ₦200,000, ₦100,000, and ₦50,000, respectively.
As Dr. Idahosa emphasized, “Our goal is to provide an avenue for you to have the opportunity to move further. We prioritize both academic excellence and athletic achievement, just like in the US, where students must excel in both education and sports to succeed.”
The Eyoto Sports Academy is dedicated to supporting talented athletes who demonstrate dedication to their education and training. As the Vice President noted, “We support excellent athletics, regardless of their state of origin. We just want the best.”
With 700 students participating from 20 schools, the tournament promises to be an exciting display of youthful energy and athletic talent. The top 10 athletes will be selected to represent their schools in the competition.
