Following the retirement of the Manchester City and England midfielder, Jill Scott and her teammate, Ellen White, the Durham women’s Football Club forward, Emily Roberts has also confirmed her retirement from football.
The 28-year-old joined the club in 2016 and became a pillar to the squad as she contributed immensely to the team’s performances and goals which gave the club victories on many occasions.
She began her football career in Notts County and in 2015, she joined the Doncaster Rovers Belles on a season-long loan – netting for them six times and twice against Durham women – before joining the Durham women FC in 2016.
Over her seven seasons in the North East, the former Sheffield FC player made 115 appearances and scored 26 times, making her Durham’s second-highest goal scorer.
Speaking on the reason why she decided to retire, Emily Roberts stated that it was the right time for her to move on to the next chapter of her life especially after getting married. She also expressed gratitude to the staff and her teammates who created a lovely environment that Made her enjoy her football career and wished the team all the best.
