Enugu Rangers manager Fidelis Ilechukwu has sounded his worry over his side’s inability to convert goal-scoring chances.

The Flying Antelopes began the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League season with a 2-1 win over Doma United at the Awka City Stadium.

Despite the victorious start to the new season, Ilechukwu looks to be perturbed by Enugu Rangers’ profligacy in attack.

The 2017 Nigeria top-flight division champions saw a litany of chances wasted in the encounter against Doma United, and that was evident in the scoreline.

Speaking on Enugu Rangers’ wastefulness in front of goal, Fidelis Ilechukwu said: “As a coach you have to be very worried because this is what we are doing every day, converting chances, scoring goals.

The former MFM FC manager also revealed the area his side would look to improve in the coming games, he said:

“What we are going to do, is to give them more confidence that they can do it and keep on having the training session the same way.”

Kalu Nweke scored the opener in the 28th minute, and Austine Onyemaechi doubled the lead of Enugu Rangers in the 32nd minute of proceedings.

Bidemi Owukwo scored the consolation for The Savannah Tigers, as they slumped to a defeat on Matchday 1.

Fidelis Ilechukwu was appointed as manager of Enugu Rangers on July 5, 2023.

He was previously manager of Plateau United from September 1, 2021 till July 3, 2023.

The Flying Antelopes sit 2nd on the Nigeria Premier Football League table after 1 game played this campaign.
