FIFA WWC: Australia vs Nigeria – President Tinubu confident of Super Falcons victory

Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday morning in Abuja extended his best wishes to the Super Falcons as they prepare to face the Maltidas of Australia in their second group match at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023.

In a statement titled ‘Message to Super Falcons at the FIFA Women’s World Cup’, the President expressed his optimism that Thursday’s match will end in victory for the Super Falcons.

Following a goalless draw against Canada, the Super Falcons will face co-host nation Australia in their second Group B match at the Lang Park Stadium on Thursday, July 27, at 11 a.m. (Nigeria time).

In his statement, the president was quoted as saying, “He firmly believes that the upcoming match on Thursday will be a thrilling encounter that will culminate in victory for the Nigerian team.”

The statement was signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, Dele Alake, revealed on Wednesday.

The Matildas of Australia currently sit second in the group with three points with Canada moving to the first position after a comeback 2-1 victory over Ireland earlier today, securing 4 points so far. Nigeria on the other hand are with just a single point from the goalless draw against Canada in their first group stage game.

The Maltidas of Australia defeated the Nigerian women’s team when both teams met at the 2015 edition of the competition.

However, the nine-time African champions and their millions of fans expect victory in Thursday’s encounter.
