Infantino Confirms An American Super Bowl Halftime Show–Initiative For 2026 FIFA World Cup Final

The Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) President, Gianni Infantino on Wednesday, announced that the 2026 Men’s World Cup final, co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico will for the very first time include a halftime show similar to the America’s Super Bowl.

With the biggest sporting event happening across three countries, never in the history of the mundial tournament has there been a halftime show, but Infantino confirmed this invention after a World Cup event in Dallas with the final set to be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19, 2026.

“I can confirm the first ever halftime show at a FIFA World Cup final in New York, New Jersey, in association with Global Citizen. This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world,” he wrote via his Instagram handle.

As well as advocacy group Global Citizen, FIFA President said the world football governing body would be working with British group Coldplay to help produce the halftime show. Though, he didn’t specifically say they would be performing, but said its members would be helping put together a list of artists.

Meanwhile, the official rules of football, outlined by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) state that halftime breaks should not exceed 15 minutes. In the aftermath of the announcement, nothing has been said whether it will be changed to accommodate the performance, such as with halftime shows at the Super Bowl.

The opening match of the 2026 World Cup is set to kick off in Mexico City at the Estadio Azteca on June 11, 2026. The schedule will consist of 104 matches as the competition has been expanded to 48 national teams from 32.
