The founder/CEO of the making of Champions (MOC), Mr Bambo Akani has expressed his satisfaction and excitement with the display of talent and performances of the athletes at the just concluded first leg of the MTN Champs Season 3 tagged ‘MTN CHAMPS BENIN’ hosted in Benin City.

In an interview with www.platinumnewsng.com writer, Sharon Akhigbe Ekhiwere, Mr Akani expressed his excitement with the success of the event and how smooth the organisation was.

“It was a great way to start the season, we started season one here with about a thousand athletes and now that number has doubled, it was generally a great show.”

“We also had Team MTN at the MOC academy come and make their debut at this competition, they’ve been training in Lagos for the last 9 months, and they won a lot of medals here as well. We are very excited about how this competition has gone. It went up very smoothly. We have two more legs to look forward to in Season 3 – Lagos in April and Uyo the Grand Final in April/May. Then the Lagos leg is the continental relay, so we are pretty excited about that as well.”

He went on to state how happy he is with the performances of the athletes at the event and how the MVPs would be selected:

“It’s early season, so for the four age group – cadet, youth, junior, seniors and I think it is very early, so we haven’t seen most of the seniors come out yet, but the juniors and the Youths especially came out in their numbers, about a thousand youths – they were at the Uniben sports complex for two days then moved here to the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium for the final day to meet up with everyone else. So I think we are happy with their performances, now we’re looking to see which athletes we’re going to invite  to the grand Final as part of team MVP and sponsor them down to Uyo to compete for a chance to join the MOC academy in Lagos.”

“the MVPs would be announced in due course. We’ll look at all the performances and we’ll do our background checks and our selections in Uyo. At that point we’ll announce our MVPs and they’ll be rewarded in Uyo.

He hailed the partnership and collaboration with the Edo State government, thanking the Sports commission for their support and

“The collaboration with the Edo state government and the sports commission was fantastic. Edo State has really opened their arms to us. His excellency the deputy Governor was here during the opening ceremony. So we want to say a very big thanks to his excellency the governor. We also want to say a very big thanks to the Edo state sports commission, for all the support, logistics, accommodation for  our athletes and for everything they provided. It’s one of the reasons why we have come to Benin and it’s one of the reasons why we’ll come back to Benin again in future seasons.”
