Ahead of the 2023/2024 league season, Nigerian midfielder Amanda Mbadi has completed her transfer to Saint Etienne, the newly promoted French D1 Arkema side.
Mbadi, formerly with Thonon Evian, made the switch from the French second-tier side, Grand Genève FC, following their triumphant 2023 French D2 campaign. The talented player will don jersey number 4 as she embarks on her journey with her new club.
This transfer marks the arrival of the third Nigerian player at Saint Etienne. She joins fellow midfielder Regina Otu and goalkeeper Yewande Balogun, bringing a strong Nigerian presence to the team. The departure of Esther Okoronkwo, who moved to Spanish Liga F side UDG Tenerife, paved the way for Mbadi’s inclusion in the squad.
Expressing her excitement about the move, Mbadi credited her compatriot Regina Otu for introducing her to Saint Etienne. Having faced them last season in the second division, Otu spoke highly of the club’s professionalism and the quality of its players, influencing Mbadi’s decision to join.
“I am very, very happy to join ASSE,” Mbadi said after signing with the Green team. “Regina Otu introduced me to a very professional club, with very good players, some of whom I faced last season. That’s what I found when I arrived here and I can’t wait to evolve with them.”
