Nigeria’s 2030 Commonwealth Games Bid Gains Momentum as NSC Hosts Evaluation Committee

The National Sports Commission (NSC), led by Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director General Bukola Olopade, welcomed the Commonwealth Sport Bid Evaluation Committee to Abuja as part of the ongoing bid assessment process.

Dikko emphasised President Tinubu’s resolve to bring the Games to Africa, calling it “a milestone for inclusivity within the Commonwealth sporting family.” He assured the visiting delegation of Nigeria’s readiness, adding that hosting the Games would showcase the country’s rising influence in global sports.

Olopade highlighted the strengths of Nigeria’s bid, citing world-class facilities, strong political will, private sector support, and public enthusiasm. He noted that the bid team, chaired by Mainasara Illo, had submitted a comprehensive proposal and expressed optimism about Nigeria’s chances following engagements with the Evaluation Committee, led by Darren Hall.

Reinforcing government support, the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, received the Commonwealth delegation on President Tinubu’s behalf. The meeting was attended by nine Federal Executive Council members, including the Youth
