The management of Warri Wolves has officially severed ties with Coach Jolomi Atune Alli with immediate effect following a heavy 4-1 loss to Inter Lagos FC during the Nigeria National League (NNL) matchday nine tie, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
Confirming the decision was in a statement released by the club. In the statement, it was revealed that the Chairman of Warri Wolves FC, Neville Ambakederemo, revealed that the directive originated from Chief Tonubok Okowa, Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission. Chief Okowa had previously issued a two-match win ultimatum to Coach Atune Alli following the team’s home game defeat to Giant Brillars Of Enugu.
The Management of Warri Wolves cited the team’s consistent poor performance as the primary reason for taking such decisive action, especially in the wake of the 4-1 defeat against Inter Lagos FC on Saturday, January 20th, 2024.
In the absence of Coach Atune Alli, the reins have been handed over to Assistant Coach Austine Johnny, who will temporarily take charge until the appointment of a new Technical Adviser.
Expressing gratitude for Coach Jolomi Atune Alli’s contributions during his tenure with the Warri-based side, the Management wished him success in his future endeavors.
While Warri Wolves exhibited commendable performance last season, narrowly missing out on the Federation Cup finals and securing a spot in the Super Eight playoffs for promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League, the current season has presented challenges. With three wins, one draw, and four losses, including a critical home defeat, the team finds itself in the relegation zone with 10 points from eight games in the NNL Conference B.
Looking ahead, the Seasiders are scheduled to host Gateway FC at the Kwale Township Stadium on January 28 for matchday 10 of the NNL. Subsequently, they will return to Lagos to face off against Trade Safe FC on February 3rd.
