NWFL24: League body postpones matchday 10 to address critical issues

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership has announced a three-week postponement of the ongoing 2023/2024 Premiership season, Platinumnewsng.com is reporting.

This decision will see the movement of Matchday 10 fixtures from their original schedule on February 28th, 2024, to March 20th, 2024.

This comes as the league seeks to address critical issues related to match operations and officiating to ensure a smoother and more successful continuation of the season.

The Chief Operating Officer of the NWFL, Modupe Shabi, in a letter to the 16 clubs dated February 23, 2024, explained the necessity of tackling these challenges promptly

She stated that the postponement is crucial for the long-term success and sustainability of the league, with emphasis on the league’s commitment to resolving these challenges efficiently.

Also, the NWFL used the opportunity to appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders involved, including fans, players, and officials.

Nigeria’s women’s top-flight league has gone on break three times this season, with only nine matchdays played.
