Liverpool extends its EPL lead to 9 points, while Anas Yusuf makes history as the first player to score 10 goals in the NPFL this season. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen emerged victorious in a thrilling Qatar GP.


It was a weekend full of fireworks as some had to settle for what their ability could provide them, some had nothing to offer, others did themselves proud, but the horrific nightmare continues for Pep Guardiola. Matchday 13 of the English Premier League ended with Liverpool on top of the table with eleven points clear of current champions Man City after a 2-0 victory against them. Against all odds, Chelsea moved to third on the table after downing Aston Villa 3-0. United’s Ruben Amorim, in his first home match, thumped  Everton 4-0 to give the fans part of what to expect in his managerial stint at Carrington Road while Spurs were held by a 10-man Fulham. The 2024/25 UEFA CL is beginning to take better shape as matchday five came in hot with teams like Sparta Prague and VFB Stuggart, who started like a house on fire, sizzled out this week. While Bayern Munich and Athletico Madrid continued to pick up their form slowly.  Meanwhile, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Barcelona, and Borussia Dortmund are top four on the UEFA CL table.

However, Manchester City blew a three-goal lead against Feyenoord, with the game ending in a 3-3 draw that made them fall to 17th place. Real Madrid also lost for the third time in four Champions League games and are currently 24th.


In the Europa League, Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund scored a brace alongside Garnacho’s goal to hand Ruben Amorim his first victory as the team came from behind to beat Bodo/Glimt 3-2. Roma got a late equalizer against Tottenham Hotspurs, and the game ended in a 2-2 draw. Here’s the full-time result of the games.


The NPFL Matchday 15 came to a thrilling conclusion with 21 goals scored across various match centres. The day saw one draw, eight home victories, and no away wins, as teams battled for crucial points.

At the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Bendel Insurance secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Plateau United. Uche Collins opened the scoring for Insurance, but Victor Dawa equalized for Plateau United in the 24th minute. The game was eventually decided by Kayode Oke’s goal in the 66th minute, as Bendel Insurance continued to build momentum despite a 3-point deduction. Lobi Stars grabbed a much-needed 1-0 victory against Kwara United at the Lafia Township Stadium. Kwara United’s hopes of a comeback were dashed when they were reduced to 10 men.

Remo Stars, who travelled to Minna, suffered a 2-1 loss to mid-table Niger Tornadoes. Godtime Joseph and Papa Daniel scored the goals for Tornadoes, securing a statement result. Elsewhere, Kano Pillars, who have relied heavily on the experience of Ahmed Musa and Rabiu Ali, lost 1-0 to Rivers United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. Heartland FC secured a thrilling 3-2 victory against Nasarawa United, with Anas Yusuf of Nasarawa United standing out despite their loss. Yusuf has now scored 10 goals in 15 appearances this season.

The highlight of the week came from the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, where Ikorodu City compounded the woes of relegation-threatened Akwa United with a 4-1 thrashing. Ikorodu City is now unbeaten in their last six league games, having scored 22 goals – the most of any team so far. They have moved up to third place on the NPFL log. Next up will be the oriental derby, and It promises to be a thrilling encounter.


In other news, Max Verstappen won the very chaotic Qatar Grand Prix. It was quite a chaotic one after debris from the wing mirror was left on the tracks, which Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz got punctured. Despite that, Max Verstappen and  Lando Norris had a tense battle until Lando Norris was given a 10-second-stop-and-go penalty, which made him finish tenth. However, Charles Leclerc finished second, with Oscar Piastri in third.  For the Constructors championship, McLaren saw their lead cut down to 21 points over Ferrari, and the Constructors championship will now go down to the final race in Abu Dhabi.
