The executive director of operation and sports development at the Edo State Sports Commission, Mrs. Sabina Chikere, joined several Nigerians who have heaped praises on Nigeria Football Federation board member Ms Aisha Falode, for her Girls Play Forward Initiative, which kicked off May 27, 2025.
The program, especially to nurture children aged 5 to 10, is targeted at nurturing girl children in leveraging opportunities in the football ecosystem, held at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium amidst pump and Funfair with the children entertained to the best of children’s day celebration.
Games, painting, football matches and drills for the kids, hula hoops and other interesting moments accompanied by teaching the children what football is and opportunities in the game.
Speaking highly of the program, Mrs Sabina commended Ms Aisha Falode’s gesture while tagging it as a pathfinding initiative.
“Mama Sports has done well; not only is this program a good one to make the children happy, but it is also a path-finding initiative for the children as many of them would soon be choosing different parts of football to explore as a career. Either as a player, coach, referee, administrator, manager, scout, agent and many more.”
“This is bringing football to the girls and giving them a good career path. Programs like this will continue to ensure that our girls grow to become useful to themselves and society as they grow, not tolling the ungodly paths many have in time past.”
“I want to thank Madam Aisha for this and assure her of the sports commission’s support any day, any time.”
“I also want to use this medium to call on other well-meaning sons and daughters to come up with and sponsor more programs like this so that we can not only raise champions but also reduce crime in our state”, she added.
