…Awardees hosted to reception, get commendation letters

Edo State Deputy Governor and Chairman, State Taskforce on immunization, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, Thursday hosted some deserving medical and health workers to a grand reception and award for their dedication to duty and professional excellence.

Four outstanding medical personnel who played major roles in the State’s efforts at optimizing its immunization program were personally honoured and celebrated at the event, which was held at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy, JOOPSA, in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The list of awardees includes; Dr. (Mrs.) Faith Ireye from the World Health Organization, WHO; Dr. Andrew Ifeanyichukwu Obi, Senior Lecturer/Consultant, Public Health Physician, University of Benin/University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Dr. Gregory Oko-Oboh, also from the University of Benin as well as Dr. Pius Ikenna Ononigwe, from the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor and Chairman of, the State Taskforce on immunization, Rt.Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, while recounting his experiences working with these doctors, said: “We are very proud of the awardees and how they have demonstrated excellence and selflessness in their line of duty.”

“As the Chairman of the State Taskforce on Immunization, this is a special award from me to you for distinguishing yourselves as true lives – savers. You did your work diligently to impact the healthcare ecosystem in Edo State”.

“Many of you deserve this award but the services of these four awardees are required in their various establishments, so, we decided to let them go, they are no longer with us. This is why we are rewarding their efforts today”.

“According to Shaibu, “we aim to bring about continuous strive for excellence in the delivery of good healthcare services in Edo State. Others should intensify efforts in lives saving, as the lives of our children is important to the State”

In their separate remarks, the awardees hailed Edo State Government, Governor Obaseki, the Deputy Governor and all health workers in the State, while dedicating the awards to all the healthcare practitioners who were committed to their work, especially during the Covid-19 era and during the challenge of Lassa fever

The ceremony attracted personalities from all walks of life, top government functionaries, including Edo State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Obehi Akoria, heads of the 18 Local Governments, their health officials, family members and friends of the Awardees.

The high point of the event was the formal presentation of plaques and commendation letters to the Awardees by the Deputy Governor.
