Super Eagles Midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has joined Portuguese Primeira Liga side Grupo Desportivo de Chaves also known as CD Chaves on a three-year deal from Spanish Side SD Ponferradina for an undisclosed Fee.
The 25-year-old made 36 appearances scoring goal and four assists for SD Ponferradina has left the club after they finished 19th and were relegated from the Spanish Segunda division at the end of the 2022/2023 season.
The former Golden Eaglets captain who first made the journey to European football by signing for Arsenal in 2016 will be returning to Portugal having made 16 Appearances for Porto B in the 2018/2019 season. He has also had stints in the Netherlands with MVV Maastricht and VVV Venlo and in Spain with Huesca and Alcoron before Joining Ponferradina in 2022.
The move to the Flavienses brings to an end his three-year stay in Spain where he had a difficult spell with Huesca coming to an abrupt end after returning late from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations where he represented the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Nwakali will now link up with fellow Nigerian Nwankwo Obiora at CD Chaves who finished 7th in the Portuguese top flight last season.
