Head coach of the Senior Male National Football Team in Nigeria, Jose Peseiro, has reiterated his main goal with the Super Eagles; to lift the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for Nigeria.
Earlier in June, the 62-year-old gaffer had promised Nigerians of winning the most coveted trophy in Africa, the 2023 AFCON set to hold in Ivory Coast in January 2024.
In an interview with NFF Tv, monitored by Platinumnewsng.com the Portuguese tactician talked about Nigeria’s international friendly against Algeria, and how the friendly game will put his team in shape to win the next AFCON tournament.
“I want to win, and also prepare the team to win the next AFCON tournament,” the coach said when asked about his goal.
“Algeria is a good team. Of course, our goal is to win the next AFCON, but for that, we need to create the habit to win, it’s the main point. You introduce some younger players, introduce the tactical works, introduce the situation and dynamics, but at the same time, you want to win; you must create the habit to win. Every time, we want to win, to become the best national team in Africa, we must create that habit, and we want to win.” Peseiro said.
The last time Nigeria won the AFCON was in 2013, the 29th edition of the tournament held in South Africa, with the Late Stephen Keshi as coach of the Super Eagles.
