“Tagging It Match-Fixing Is Unfair”, I Will Prove My Innocence —Obasogie

Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has denied any involvement in match-fixing following allegations made by his Tanzanian club, Singida Black Stars, Platinum News is reporting.

The club had on Friday, February 27, released a statement via its official social media platforms announcing the suspension of the goalkeeper over alleged match-fixing. The statement, originally written in Swahili and later translated by Platinum News, confirmed that disciplinary action had been taken pending further investigation.

Reacting to the development, Obasogie in a brief chat with Ayoola Adeleke of Platinum News, expressed shock over the club’s decision, maintaining his innocence.

“It was surprising to see the club’s statement a few hours after the match. Yes, I made a mistake in that match, but tagging it match-fixing is something I don’t understand,” he said.

The goalkeeper described the situation as a test of faith.

“I just see all these like temptations, but God is in control,” he added.

When asked if he had any issues with individuals at the club which may warrant witch-hunting, “Lewinsky” dismissed any animosity, insisting he has always conducted himself professionally.

“I don’t have an issue with anyone, and I believe I’m one of the well-disciplined players on the team, but I don’t know why this was brought up,” he stated.

In a separate statement, the shot-stopper affirmed his readiness to appear before any investigative committee to clear his name.
