As the University of Benin Teaching Hospital Golden Jubilee celebration activities continue, the Hospital’s management will on Monday, April 3rd kick off the Inter-Departmental/Inter-Profesional Games as one of the activities to celebrate the landmark.
The curtain raiser of the tournament will see Team Cooperative take on Nurses/Pharmacy at the UBTH main field, Ugbowo at 3 pm on Monday, April 3rd, 2023. Other games will simultaneously take place in other sporting facilities situated in the Hospital.
The second edition of the Games will be climaxing the 50th-anniversary celebration activities of the Teaching Hospital and will see football competitions, Golf, Chess, Table Tennis, and Scrabble amongst others take Center Stage for one month in the Hospital sports facilities.
The football tournament which will see 12 teams jostle for glory from the 3rd of April will see one match played daily for a month with the final scheduled for the 10th of May, 2023.
Meanwhile, the Chairman local organising committee, Dr Scot Omorogbe said that the tournament will also witness the emergence of individual awards for outstanding performers in the tournament – highest goals scorer, Most Valuable Player, Best Goalkeeper, Fair Play Award, Best Coach and others – to celebrate the top performers.
Team Doctors are the defending champions of the championship after beating Team Porters 2-1, in 2022, to emerge champions of the maiden edition.
