Champions of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Bayelsa Queens have now booked a place at the CAF Women’s Champions League after defeating Ampem Darkoa Ladies of Ghana 3-0 to emerge WAFU-B champions.
The Prosperity Girls displayed a thrilling performance at the Stade De Yamoussoukro in Cote D’Ivoire, to pick up the sole ticket to the second edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League, set to take place in Morocco in October as they whitewashed their Ghanaian counterparts,Ampem Darkoa.
The Nigerian side opened the game with a goal in the 11th minute, courtsey of Miracle Joseph spot kick and it wasn’t long after the first goal, the woman of the match against Espoir Ladies of Togo, Flourish Sebastine exhibitied her great skills which produced a goal to her name and also increased the tally to two.
The Ampem Darkoa Ladies in frustration were drifted apart by the two goals the Prosperity ladies put up which saw them struggle but to no avail. Bayelsa Queens as usual explored more attacking chances and the 2021 Aiteo Federation Cup winners clinically sealed the game.
Chinyere Igbomalu who scored a brace for her team in Bayelsa Queen’s 6-0 victory against Espoir Ladies continued her fine form of display on the field as she put an icing on the cake in the 42nd minute, compounding the woe of the Ghanaians.
The Prosperity girls, resumed the second half with more intense and electryfing display to defend the goals which they already got. The second 45 was more like a repeat of their first encounter in the group stage which ended in a goalless draw but this time around the Ampem Darkoa Ladies succumbed to the better side.
Scoring a total of 17 goals and conceding only one goal throughout the tournament in Cote D’Ivoire, Bayelsa Queens will have to continue this exceptional form in Morocco if they are to create history. Last year, Rivers Angels featured in the maiden CAF Champions League, which was won by Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies
