WOMEN AFROBASKET: NBBF Invites 20 Players To Camp

Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, the D’Tigress, is gearing up to defend their championship title in the upcoming 2023 Women’s Afrobasket as the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has invited 20 players after open trials in Nigeria.

The recent appointment of Rena Wakama as the team’s new head coach has generated high expectations as she takes charge and leads the players into training camp.

The Basketball Federation had initially opened the camp for trials in Nigeria and the United States but the trials according to multiple reports did not hold. Interestingly, the 20 players invited are primarily composed of players based in the United States.

D’Tigress, having clinched the championship title in the previous editions of the competition, enters the tournament as the reigning back-to-back champions. The team’s impressive winning streak and consistent performance have made them the team to beat this season despite the recent turmoil in the basketball federation.
