…Shaibu says with Okowa as VP candidate Edolites has a major stake in the presidency
No fewer than 100 coordinators of different Support Groups from different political organizations across the 18 local government areas of Edo State converged on the ancient city of Benin, Edo State, Saturday hosted by the State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Tony Aziegbemhi.
The meeting held at the official residence of the Deputy Governor was to Synergy on total victory for the ATIKU/OKOWA presidential ticket and other PDP candidates in the 2023 General Elections.
The groups have pledged to work selflessly with other stakeholders to deliver all the PDP candidates in the elections
Speaking at the meeting, Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu enjoined the group to embark on a door-to-door campaign, preaching the gospel of Bendelites, adding that with Okowa as a vice presidential candidate, all Edolites have a major stake in the presidency.
According to him, ” we must know that we’re not only supporting the party, but we’re also supporting our brother, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa who is the running mate to the presidential candidate of our party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
“Okowa is our own and we have a major stake as Bendelites and it is very important we do all we must do for the 2023 Victory by sending a message to those who imported insecurity to Nigeria that Nigeria is a multi-religious country and can not be ruled by one religion’s bigot.
“We will also use the opportunity to send a clear message to others to support Bendel in this movement because Bendel is going to Aso Rock come 2023.
“When you look at the presidential candidate’s antecedents and his running mate, you will know that Atiku was never a newspaper-reading vice president, he was an articulate and vibrant vice president to Obasanjo. As the man in charge of the economic team then, Nigeria never owned foreign debt unlike what we have today. It’s no longer a secret that our country is neck deep in-depth due to bad management of the economy.
“As an experienced businessman, Atiku is coming to replicate that experience, he is not coming to learn on the job but he is coming to free Nigeria from indebtedness and revamped the ailing economy”, Shaibu added.
The state party chairman, Tony Aziegbemhi disclosed that the groups have agreed to work for the Atiku/Okowa’s victory at the poll and that of other PDP candidates.
He explained that the group’s formation is from the National, State, the local governments and polling units, adding that its mandate is to engage and galvanize other groups towards a landslide victory for Atiku/Okowa and the PDP in the 2023 general election.
He commended the group coordinators for their overwhelming support for the party while noting that campaign and mobilization should continue from the LGAs, down to the wards and especially to the unit level where we have massive people. “It will be a door-to-door exercise and we assure you that we will achieve our major objective in the 2023 elections,” Aziegbemhi said.
In their separate speeches, the group’s coordinators stressed that they were impressed with the numerous achievements of the Edo State Government and Atiku/Okowa antecedents amid different challenges, reiterating that they will continue to massively canvass from door to door for the presidential candidate and the party, the PDP to achieve its aim.
