Alexander Zverev reached the US Open quarter-finals on Tuesday morning in the last round of 16 ATP fixture. The German outlasted young Italian, Jannick Sinner in a game that lasted for 4 hours and 41 minutes, setting the record for the longest match of the 2023 US Open so far.
Zverev looked second favourite after dropping the fourth set but proved the strongest in the decider to prevail by 6-4; 3-6; 6-2; 4-6; 6-3.
At the end of the game, Zverev who was the 12th seed of the tournament said: “I guess I can say I’m back. This is exactly what I live for. This is what I love to do. Playing at 1:30 am, in front of a packed crowd in Arthur Ashe Stadium. It doesn’t get any better. This is one of the best moments of my career.”
The German will face world Number one and defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals.
