The draw for the 2025 FIBA Afrobasket qualifiers has been conducted by FIFA Africa, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
The draw which was conducted on Friday in Johannesburg, South Africa and posted on the official X account of the continental basketball body, saw 20 teams drawn into 5 groups of 4 teams each (including winners of upcoming pre-qualification tournaments)
Nigeria’s D’Tigers were drawn in group B and will compete against Cape Verde, Uganda, and winner of the pre-qualifiers between Zone 1 and 2 (Z1+Z2).
Group A consists of South Sudan, Mali, DR Congo, winner of the pre-qualifiers in Zone 6: Mauritius and Comoros while Senegal, Cameroon, Rwanda, and winner of the Zone 3 and 4 pre-qualification tournament (Z3+Z4) are the teams in group C.
Group D has Egypt, CIV, CAF, and and the winner of the pre-qualifiers between Zone 5, Madagascar and Djibouti and Group E consists of Tunisia, Angola, Guinea, and Kenya.
Group B which houses D’Tigers will play their qualifier in the February 2024 window as well as Group E and D while Group A and C will play in the November 2024 window.
Only 16 teams out of the drawn teams will be making it to the 2025 FIBA Afrobasket finals.
