As the clock ticks towards the all-important clash between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, Pacy Tau, a South African forward has stated that he doesn’t think history will play a role in the game, platinumnewsng is reporting
The winger who was the centre of one of the most famous victories by the Bafana Bafana at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in an AFCON qualifiers game against Nigeria in 2017 believes that there’s a possibility that things have changed since that result. Pau Scored an 81st-minute goal to double the lead for his country after Rantie Tokelo put Bafana Bafana in from in the 54th minute of the game.
Speaking in a pre-match press conference on Thursday evening alongside his Coach, Pau said: “I’m looking forward to the game tomorrow, of course, it’s going to be different, I don’t think history will play a role tomorrow, but South Africa, we are looking forward to the game.”
When asked by journalists about the chances of his team seeing that their opponents, the Super Eagles have an array of players plying their trade mainly in Europe, Pau said,
“I think the competition in Africa is growing and it’s nice that we have the local-based players also trying to put their names out and try to win trophies. It will also get better for Africa to also show a thing in international competition, I think Morocco did well in the World Cup. We will try as players to also put our names out there.”
The Ah Ahly winger doesn’t believe the delay in the arrival of his team to Nigeria due to the NLC/TUC strike action experienced earlier in the week will affect his team’s performance.
“I don’t think it will affect us, we are looking forward to the game, we experience such a situation — some of us play in the continent and now it’s not a topic around the team, the topic is how to do well in the game and get ready for tomorrow.”
