As the South-South Zonal Qualification competition for the 21st National Sports Festival, Delta State, continues in Akwa-Ibom State, Team Edo athletes across various sports have continued to make good accounts of themselves with good results gathering so far.
Team Edo on Wednesday morning in the Men’s and Women’s Handball matches beat Team Akwa-Ibom 26-16 and 25-19 respectively.
In the Women’s Volleyball, Team Edo beat Team Rivers 2-0, the same result their Women’s Beach Volleyball Team recorded over Team Bayelsa
Earlier on Tuesday, Team Edo men’s Football team lost to Team Bayelsa 1-0 in their first game. The team went on to defeat Team Cross Rivers 2-0 in their other match.
In other sports, Team Edo Women’s Beach Volleyball recorded a 2-0 win over Team Akwa Ibom while in Handball, Team Edo Women’s side recorded an emphatic 24-14 win over their Bayelsan counterparts. The women’s team were defeated 2-1 by Bayelsa in a keenly contested encounter.
Both Team Edo Women’s Volleyball and Beach Volleyball emerged first and have their place booked in the Festival proper.
Hostilities continue on Thursday when Team Edo’s men’s football side will battle Team Akwa Ibom at 10 am. In the Handball game, Team Edo men will play against Team Rivers in an early morning encounter.
On the Hockey field, Edo women’s team will play against the Rivers women’s team and the men will also file out against Team Bayelsa.
The zonal qualification will end on Friday, October 7, 2022.
