As the group stage of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital Inter-Professional Veterans Football Championship enters the final stretch, some teams are still desperate for their first victory, which might hinder other teams from advancing, and Edo Sports Writers Association Of Nigeria Football Club falls in this category.
Despite back-to-back losses, Edo SWAN still took onto the pitch with confidence against their opponent Benin Recreation Club ( BRC)
During the first half, the defence line of Edo SWAN fC stood up to the occasion by disrupting many attacks from the BRC. However, the BRC team created quite some chances and scored one goal, but for the rest of the chances, their shots ended up going over the post.
The defence line of Edo SWAN made sure they held strong to end the first half without conceding more than a goal and also setting the pace for a thrilling second half.
The second half wasn’t any different for BRC, who got more missed opportunities and struggled a lot to grab another goal. On the other hand, Edo SWAN, desperate to score at least a goal, continued to be resilient.
However, all their efforts seemed to have hit a rock, especially when Randy Mikah received his second yellow card, resulting in a red card and a reduction to ten men.
BRC had a laughable but pretty painful moment when Oyakhire Osarumwense missed a beautiful header that could have turned the game around for them.
As expected, drama ensued, which caused a brief pause in play due to disagreement between players on the pitch caused by BRC player Alabama Stephen, who got injured and, instead of rolling off the pitch, decided to get back in and was pushed aside by Chinedu Udeh.
The disagreement didn’t end there as BRC Ikpomwonsa Richard, who was warming up on the sidelines, also received a red card for involving himself in the disruption.
At last, the game ended 1-0 in favour of BRC, but the Edo SWAN side was better and a match to their opponent especially, starting the game with one man down and ending the game with one man down, despite their strong performance the Benin Recreation Club advanced with the scoreline.
