The University of Benin Teaching Hospital Staff Team secured third place finish in the inaugural Esama of Benin @90 Veterans Cup after a gripping contest against Edo All Stars.
The match ended goalless after regulation time, leading to a penalty shootout where UBTH emerged victorious with a 5-3 win.
Captained by Dr. Scott Omorogbe, UBTH Staff Team were filled with pride for the team’s achievement, celebrating their performance in the competitive tournament. UBTH qualified for third place after losing 2-3 on penalty to Crescent Sports club in the semi final following a scoreless draw.
Meanwhile, Edo All Stars’ Richard Asegua, named player of the match, acknowledged the quality of the competition and the opportunity to participate. Edo All Stars could not advance to the final after a 4-5 penalty loss to Uwa All Stars. Both teams played a 2-2 draw at regulation time.
The tournament organized by the Edo Football Association will see the final feature Crescent Sports Club against Uwa All-Stars for the championship, with a curtain-raiser match between Edo SWAN and Ex-Bendel Insurance players.
