In the light of a recent streak of fortune at Bendel Insurance, the Executive Chairman of Edo State Sports Commission (ESC), Hon. Desmond Amadin Enabulele on Friday morning announced with immediate effect a triple appointment of Greg Ikhenoba, Austin Iyamu and Peter Obanor as the substantive Head Coach, Technical Director and Team Manager respectively.
The Commissioner, in his strategic reforms for effective management and development of the two state-government-owned clubs, also extended a similar approach to Edo Queens with the approval of Rollanson Aituairi Odeh as the General Manager.
Among others are Idemudia Osigbemen and Anthony Ipogah, simultaneously assigned to be the Scouting Coaches of the famous Benin Arsenal and their female counterparts. Princess Omoyemwen Adeyinka Afolabi is now the Welfare Officer of the reigning champions of the Nigerian Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership.
With an impressive showpiece and a consistent run of form to rescue the Benin-based NPFL club out of the relegation waters, Enabulele rewarded Ikhenoba’s brilliance with the role of a substantive Head Coach following the shocking resignation of Monday Odigie in November 2024. On the other hand, Austin Iyamu is meant to fill in the void of Technical Director.
Following Edo Queens’ astounding 2023/24 campaigns of NWFL Premiership and CAF Women’s Champions League, Moses Aduku’s genius with the team was compensated with a contract renewal and will continue as the gaffer for two more years.
The Honourable Commissioner, however, charged all appointees at both clubs to bring their utmost knowledge and ensure that they dispense their duties with great professionalism as expectations are high.
He also called for a synergic cohabitation and hassle-free work environment amongst new and old staff of the teams in driving the process of change for the overall development of the clubs while adding that all appointments are based on merit and individual abilities.
The ESC, meanwhile, is organizing an unveiling ceremony for the new management, technical team and players of Bendel Insurance on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 10 am at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City.
